Ziiiiiip! Zip goes the Zippers
Yup. Those are some of the words to my college fight song. We not only have a weird fight song, we have about the strangest mascot. Zippy the KANGAROO. 
What the heck. A kangaroo????? I never understood that one. Right now there is a mascot contest to prove who really is the um, COOLEST mascot. Please. Vote. Vote for Zippy. Vote for the Zips. Vote for the KANGAROO!

A kangaroo? Really?
Hey now! As a fellow UA Alum, I must say I like Zippy. That could be b/c when I was in college I was friends with the guy who was Zippy, so I'm partial. But come on now, kangaroos are cool! Go Zips!!

INT: Could you explain your name for me, please? Does it have something to do with being a marsupial, or is it more about your agility and speed?
ZIPPY: The University of Akron has one of the most unique nicknames in all of intercollegiate athletics. The Zippers, the original name of Akron’s athletic teams, is a reference to a specific type of rubber overshoe that was manufactured in Akron, which was at one time the rubber capitol of the world. The name was later shortened to Zips and “Zippy’” the kangaroo was officially declared the University’s mascot in 1953. Why a kangaroo? Because a kangaroo is an animal that is fast, agile and powerful with undying determination – all the necessary qualities of a great athlete.
And, what exactly, are Otto and Big Red?????

My college mascot is an elephant. Or specifically it is the CSUF Titan. Ahem.
