good news bad news

good news: i am finally watching march of the penguins and i am loving it.

bad news: one of my brand new collapsible rubbermaid containers smells like onions. i need to get some lemon dish soap, but that would mean changing out my spicy pear dish soap that i oddly adore. boo

good news: i got clementines today

bad news: i can't find my stinkin' orange peeler from pampered chef that i was SO excited to be able to try out again and save my finger nails from peeling my snack

good news: my internet is still on :)

bad news: i am keeping my appointment for tomorrow because i don't care what they say, there is something wrong with it and they WILL fix it. i guess this is more bad news for the cable guy as he has to deal with ME as a customer tomorrow...

good news: i am the "girl to know" this week :)

False Alarm??? (and ten on tuesday)

1. Well my internet woes may be a false alarm as I decided to give it a whirl one last time and poof! we have internet. Odd as the reaction from the help desk was "Oh, yeah, this thing is really messed up...I don't think you are going to be able to fix it." I swear, I am quoting.
2. It is 11:17pm and another one of my crazy neighbors is currently plowing our sidewalk up and down my street. NOT that I don't appreciate it, but I again say, it is 11:17 PM
3. Lily and I went over to Rachel's house for dinner tonight. I can't tell you how lovely it was. Lily and Riley had so much fun *wink* *wink* Thanks Rach :)
4. Ah Gilmore Girls has officially redeemed itself. I am back to pining for next Tuesday to hurry up and come :)
5. I am officially tired of cold and snow thankyouverymuch.
6. I think Missy and I are going to get to meet the one and only Amber on friday. Does anyone else find it just slightly hard explaining "I am going to go meet a girl from the internet...see I belong to this blog..." REally, it is not weird at all.
7. I am suddenly fighting getting a cold with all of my might. I WILL NOT GET SICK. I hate it when they sneak up on you so fast.
8. Lily woke up at 5:30am this morning and instead of fighting with her to calm down by rocking her and singing some songs, we laid down on the couch and watched Jack's Big Music Show. It is an instant charm and prevents many, many hours of crying and fits. So why do I feel like a failure when we do this? We really don't watch much TV, just a half hour a day, sometimes a full hour when we watch Sesame Street, but still. Mama guilt rears its ugly head.
9. I want EVERYTHING that Elsie created, including that adorable kitchen! No seriously. I am thinking of painting my kitchen aqua with all red accents. Mmmmhhhh.
10. I just sneezed. Twice. I WILL NOT GET SICK!

3. i love ben folds. LOVE ben folds. i have been known to shed a tear while listening to a ben folds cd because i just LOVE his lyrics, his voice and oh that piano. i FINALLY got Rockin' the Suburbs and let me tell you, i love it. here's my favorite part from my favorite song from the album...
i don't get many things right the first time
in fact, i am told that a lot

now i know all the wrong times,
the stumbles and falls

brought me here

that i first saw your lovely face?
now i see it everyday, and i know...

that i am, i am, i am the luckiest

how did i wait so long to buy this thing?
4. i just finished the namesake (wonderful) now i am on to the red tent
5. i have five new layouts done waiting to be scanned and uploaded...i do believe shelly is about ready to strangle me.

8. i really need to go to bed. and yes, this item is just filler...
9. did anyone else think that Nancy Pelosi should have stopped doing such odd things with her mouth since she could be seen on camera. i'm just saying.
10. on a more serious note, i was curious so i checked...the word Afghanistan-13 times...Iraq, twice...hhhhmmmm. oh and if you missed it, find it here.

A few of my favorite things

1. Scrubs. Seriously, I LOVE this show. Especially when they have full blown musical episodes, written by the composers of Avenue Q (completely hysterical and completely inappropriate musical inspired by Sesame Street) starring Stephanie D'Abruzzo the woman who played Kate Monster. It was so good. So funny. I love this show.
2. I decided to sit down and play the piano today and Lily decided while I was playing the piano, she would walk her "circuit" (kitchen to dining room to bedroom to dining room to living room to kitchen etc. etc. etc...) and sing. She sang the whole time I was playing. It was just a wonderful thing to hear. I can't wait to see what this girl comes up with next.
3. Scrapping with friends. I took the long, long...ok 1/2 hour drive to my friend Erin's house last night for some good quality scrapping. And Renee' we really did have a GREAT time-hope you can join us sometime, and I hope you liked the picture ;)
4. The Namesake. I just started reading it and I can't seem to put it down. Oh and the movie has already been made...
5. My quiet house. During some point in the weekend, Bj normally takes Lily on a little Da/daughter date. I love my family, but sometimes I need a little time to myself in a quiet house. This directly relates to my "word" for 2007, which is PEACE. I know, those of you who read Ali's blog know that that is her word too, but it just fit me. I need to have peace in my life. I need to have peace in my relationships, I need to promote peace where ever I can. I just need to take some time to be at peace. So what's your word?

"All I want for Christmas" by Spike Jones & his City Slickers (mmmmhhh. )

What do my friends really think of me?
"Dangle" by Rusted Root (huh???)

How can I make myself happy?
"O' Sailor" by Fiona Apple (mmmmhhhh-does this mean I should go on a cruise?)

What should I do with my life?
"I Wonder as I Wander" from 'Tis the Season, Bluegrass Christmas (Yeah, thanks. VERY helpful oh ipod of knowledge)

Will I ever have children? (or more I guess...)
"Harvest Breed" by Nik Drake (sounds like a big yes on that one...)

What is some good advice for me?
"The Saragasso Sea" by The Great Depression (mmm-perhaps the sailor theme??)

How will I be remembered?
"Breeze Black Night" by The Ditty Bops (oh. i see...)

What do I think my current theme song is?
"Sweet-a little baby" by Pete Seeger and the Kids (yeah, that makes sense ;)

What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
"Future Women" by The M's (I happen to think that answer is very cool.)

What song will play at my funeral?
"Rolling" by Soul Coughing (well, I guess it kind of applies?)

What is my day going to be like?
"Lightnin' Hopkins" by R.E.M. (ok I just don't know what that means...)

Should I publish this meme?
"Breathe" by Faith Hill (for the record this was on a soundtrack from a wedding...)

My own question...Should I tag others to join in?

"Pablo and Andrea" by Yo La Tengo (well I guess if your name is pablo or andrea, consider yourself tagged ;)

Ten on Tuesday

1. I just dropped my hair brush in the toilet. And now I need to buy a new hair brush.
2. It finally snowed here, and has been snowing all day, but alas it is still only about an inch of coverage. How is that possible?
3. I have now organized the following: basement (still almost but not quite done), music, lily's bookcase, silver shelving unit in kitchen, most of the kitchen cabinets, my closet and dressers, I have made my bed EVERY SINGLE day but one since January 1 and yes, to me this is a big deal :), my craft room (not quite done). Next on the list is the rest of the kitchen cabinets and the kitchen drawers, finishing up the basement and my craft room, CDs, DVDs, Lily's new room, bathroom cabinet, the rest of the closets in the house, pictures and computer. I have been a very busy bee...
4. I took a bath the other day-a real honest to goodness soak in the tub. Can't remember the last time I did that. It was wonderful. I think I may do it again tonight. And please hold any and all snarky comments to yourself-I take a shower every day thankyouverymuch.
5. Lily and I went to a new storytime today. It was very enjoyable for both of us-I just wish the leader didn't sing in the bass range. Sometimes it is so hard being a trained musician-you can't just enjoy things for what they are. You must analyze and observe. *sigh*
6. I had a bra fitting yesterday and wouldn't you know that I was one of the 2% that seems to be wearing the right undies. Boring. So I went to another place and got fitted and was a different size. Mmmmhhhh. Perhaps that's why no one wears the correct size...
7. The garden bloomed yesterday at 2peas and I LOVE so much of what they did!
8. I just found out that a friend of mine is having a girl...I'm just so excited that Lily will have another new girlfriend :)
9. Lily is just waking up making wonderful squeaking and giggling noises in her bed. Sounds like she had a good nap :)
10. And because there is a rumor going around that posts without pictures are boring, I give you Lily's favorite new play place...

Ten on Tuesday

1. I don't want to talk about it.
2. I started knitting again last night. I am a really good knitter as long as I never ever make a mistake. EVER.
3. So far in this new year I have reorganized my closet, my dressers, my thousands and thousands of pieces of music, my basement (not all the way done but getting there,) my coupon holder, my Christmas decorations, and today, FINALLY will be my scraproom. I can't wait to get back in there.
4. Seriously? You have got to be kidding me.
5. Bj and I ended up with a bad case of food poisoning on Sunday. I really don't recommend it.
6. This morning we had snow on the ground. I had almost forgotten what it looked like.
7. Have you noticed I switched to the new blogger? Haven't decided if I like it yet but so far so good.
8. Lily and I were supposed to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's last night so I could watch this with the biggest fans ever. She decided that she didn't want to sleep in her Mama's old room, so finally at 8:45 we packed up and went home. Such a shame-she just doesn't get how fun it is to spend the night at the grandparents house yet.
9. I am once again looking for some new bedding much to Bj's chagrin. Before I give up and just have something made, anyone have any suggestions of some cool stores?
10. Lily now can say dada, mama, baby, ball, and hi, and can sign all done, eat, more, hungry, milk and bye-bye...when she feels like it. And yes, she is still walking up a storm :)

purging, cleaning, reorganizing

That is how I spent my day. I am on an organizing kick. An obsessive organizational kick you could say. The 2007 is starting off with a bang as I am going to get all those little projects that you put off because they are just no fun yet need to be done anyway. I have least 20 pairs of shoes and five bags of clothes ready for the lovely people of Amvets (and Melanie :) to inherit. I also FINALLY threw out some undies that I have had since high school. Yup. It really needed to be done. My closet is now organized by color AND by length of sleeve. Yes this is perhaps a bit OCD, but I figure if everything really has its place it will be easier to be put back in its place. Next up is my endless stacks of sheet music. Tomorrow is going to be a long, long day.

So how did I spend last night? You know the biggest party night of the year? Although we were invited to three different locations, Bj and I opted for a quiet night at home. I made some chicken fettucini alfredo (sauce from scratch :) and some bruschetta and after a lovely dinner we watched Scoop-a new Woody Allen movie. Wouldn't you know that I would fall asleep on the couch before 10:00? Bj let me sleep a bit longer and woke me up right before midnight. We celebrated in bed, watching Dick Clark, and with a kiss and a Happy New Year, lights off and we were in dreamland. We are the most exciting couple ever. We didn't even open our champagne. Oh well, maybe next year! Anyway, Happy New Year all!!
